What uses tokens, and what is free

There are three kinds of work in the builder. Some is free, some uses BYQ AI tokens, and some runs on your own AI plan. Knowing which is which means you never get a surprise.

Free: no tokens, no AI plan

• The Style panel: themes, colours, fonts, spacing, corners and buttons.
• The Pages panel: renaming, addresses, order, drafts, and adding pages copied from a template or created blank.
• Moving, hiding, duplicating and removing sections.
• Editing text, replacing images and icons, and changing an element's look by hand.
• Editing your CMS items yourself.
• Undo, redo and restoring an earlier version.
• Publishing your site.
• Starting from a template, and answering the setup questions.

Uses BYQ AI tokens

• Messages to the Agent in the chat.
• Adding or swapping a section from the library.
• Add an effect on an element.
• The Ask AI bar when you select something in the preview.
• New pages written by the agent, and restyling a whole site.
• Changing just one of several repeated elements in the Design panel, where the agent makes the change.
• The first rewrite after the setup questions on Pro and Ultra. On Free, BYQ covers your first one up to a small allowance.

Uses your own AI plan, not BYQ tokens

When you connect Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or another MCP tool, your tool does the thinking and your own plan pays for it. BYQ tokens are not touched, and the setup questions are skipped. See Build with your own AI tool.

How many tokens you get

• Free: 5 tokens once, when you sign up. They do not refill.
• Pro: 10 a month, 60 a quarter or 180 a year.
• Ultra: 35 a month, 120 a quarter or 480 a year.
• Lifetime plans: a one-time grant of 300 on Pro and 1,000 on Ultra.
• Token packs: 15 for $6, 50 for $18 or 150 for $48, on any plan. Packs never expire.

Plan tokens do not roll over to the next renewal. When you build, plan tokens are spent first and purchased tokens after.

Fast or Best

The model picker sits next to the chat box.

• Fast is for quick edits and uses about half the tokens.
• Best is the most capable model, for bigger changes.

The Free plan uses Fast. Pro and Ultra can choose either. A full first build takes about 25 to 35 tokens on Best and about 10 to 20 on Fast, and a small edit costs a fraction of a token. Pro's monthly 10 tokens is less than one full build on Best, so on Pro pick Fast for small edits and keep Best for the big moments. If your balance is low, a note under the chat box shows these numbers with a Switch to Fast button and a Top up link.

One build at a time

Your team can run one build at a time. If another site is still building, you see a message to wait for it to finish before sending.

If you run out of tokens

With no tokens left, the builder opens the top-up and plans window instead of an error. If you run out partway through a build, it stops and everything built so far is saved. Top up, then send continue to finish. Messages you queued stay paused until you top up and resume. Everything on the free list above keeps working with a zero balance.
